Lake Powell Houseboat Trip

Annually since 2006, the Kane Schools Foundation for Students has been offering a certificate for a shoulder season, 7-day, 12 person, Lake Powell Houseboat trip. The trip is generously donated to the Kane Schools Foundation for Students by ARAMARK's Lake Powell Resorts and Marinas. All proceeds benefit students in Kane County through the nonprofit Kane Schools Foundation.

The trip certificate is generally available in the early spring of the year, and is good for the following fall through mid-June of the next year. When announcing the availability, the Foundation invites the public to submit offers.

The winning bidder receives a gift certificate issued by ARAMARK, a licensed concessioner of the National Park Service. The trip arrangements have reportedly gone smoothly and all purchasers have been able to secure the dates they wanted for the trip. An additional $600 refundable damage deposit is required and an optional Waiver of Liability Insurance charge of $27 plus tax per day is recommended. Food, fuel, pet and water toy fees are the responsibility of the traveler.

Education supporters can enjoy sparkling and spectacular Lake Powell in the fall or spring, with fewer crowds and milder temperatures. A houseboat trip on beautiful Lake Powell is the trip of a lifetime, perfect for family reunions to business retreats; swim, fish and play. The 2011 trip has been sold…..thank you to the family who purchased it for supporting the students of Kane County.

Western Legends Round Up

Every Year, the Foundation hosts a "Quench Your Thirst for Education" booth at the nationally known Western Legends Round-Up, a celebration of the western filmmaking that took place in Utah's "Little Hollywood" - Kanab, Utah. The Kane Schools Foundation for Students booth is a hotspot at this popular four day event. The trustees and other organization volunteers answer questions and distribute information about the Foundation's continuing efforts to support literacy in Kane County.

At this booth, the Foundation sells iced bottled water to "quench ... thirst for education," conducts raffles, and sells or auctions off various items of value to raise funds to purchase books and other literacy materials for our students, in keeping with our nonprofit purpose.

In September of 2010, the Foundation auctioned off a one night luxury suite at the Energy Solutions Arena, for the Saturday, November 6, 2010; Utah Jazz basketball game against the L.A. Clippers. This wonderful opportunity was donated to the Foundation by Zions Bank. The winning bidder enjoyed the luxury suite for that evening, which included seating, dinner and beverages for 12 people, with amenities.

“Double Your Dollars for Scholars” Challenge Gift Drive 2011

In the summer of 2011, the Foundation was offered a new and exciting opportunity to raise more funds to support our students. A generous local family offered to match, up to $5,000, every dollar donated by members of the community, in order to inspire more donations to the Foundation. Called DOUBLE YOUR DOLLARS FOR SCHOLARS, this challenge gift, allowed individuals and businesses to double the impact of their support.

This meant that $10 could become $20, and so on. A $100 commitment would become two hundred dollars invested in needed new technology for one of our high schools or textbooks for a middle school, or reading books for one of our elementary schools. Our current goals are to buy books for the crucial all day Kindergarten program and fund another $5,000 Technology Grant for Innovation in the coming school year.

The Foundation has always been committed to managing its resources intelligently and efficiently, so that 100% of donated funds directly benefit students. In these economic times, the Foundation, and its partner Kane School District, have worked hard to make every dollar raised and taken in, count; in the case of this challenge gift, each dollar is worth twice its value. The community responded enthusiastically and the fundraising goal of $5,000 was exceeded. Thank you to all who donated!

"Diamonds and Denim" Dinner & Live Auction

The Kane Schools Foundation for Students fundraising event, "Diamonds & Denim," held on Saturday, October 8, 2011, at the Kanab Middle School Commons, was a great success.
Over 90 people attended the dinner/auction, catered by Parry Lodge. The auction, which was moved along by the experienced hand of auctioneer Vern Ratzlaff and dynamic floor man and Chairman of the Board of Trustees Marty Ott, consisted of 47 decidedly desirable items and experiences. This was the third dinner/auction held by the Foundation since 2006.

The live auction items included two Red Rock Ride Horseback adventure trips, two Colorado River float trips, a hot air balloon ride, lift tickets at Brian Head , lodging stays at Zion Lodge, Little America and the CasaBlanca Resort; Disneyland, Utah Jazz, & Ballet West tickets, a quilt and fine art. New in this auction was a Bidder's Choice item, the choice of a stay at a castle in La Guerche sur L'Aubois, France or in a Tybee Island, Savannah, Georgia beach house. The winning bidder chose the beach house stay. Silent auction items included gift baskets, coupons from local restaurants, and smaller art items.
Education supporters participated in lively bidding, which was highly entertaining. It was a diverse group from the community, unified by the common belief in the value of education. People were generous and many bids exceeded the market value of the items. The gross revenue from the event was over $17,000.
This money that so many people helped to raise supports our community through the nonprofit Kane Schools Foundation for Students, helping to improve student learning in our school district. Improved student learning changes and enlarges lives, creating more productive citizens and lifting society as a whole. It is the key to a better future.
The Kane Schools Foundation Board of Trustees and Director greatly appreciate the support of all in the community who contributed or participated in any way in "Diamonds & Denim." Our success is truly yours.
